Charlie's last few, busy days!

Sorry I haven't posted in a few days! I've been busy putting last minute touches on an essay that was due Wednesday and then lost track of time stumbling last night!

Charlie has been doing great these past couple of days. Tuesday he didn't go to work with my mom as he didn't want to. He was tired and wanted to rest because Revellie went home on Monday. He needed to catch up on some much needed sleep! Charlie really didn't do anything else on Tuesday besides sleep. Some days are just like that for Charlie.

Wednesday Charlie slept again. It was rainy so he spent most of the day indoors. I worked on Wednesday so I missed four hours of what Charlie might have done. :) When I got home from work I had a special surprise for him. I brought him home a Great Harvest Bread treat! He absolutely LOVES those treats. They are homemade and have all sorts of good things dogs love!

Today Charlie had a great day. I got home from school and was told by my parents that Charlie was bored. As Revellie had been gone for a few days now and Chester, the dog we have had since Monday, doesn't play at all, Charlie was very bored. I played with him for a few minutes, but as always he decided he was done playing after only about two minutes. What a crazy dog! At around 11:30 I decided I wanted to take a short nap and Charlie came with me. He loves taking naps with me.

After lunch, I went to run some errands and Charlie came. We went to the Pony Express, Bartell Drugs, and PETCO!!! At Pony Express, Charlie had to stay in the car. I was only in the Pony Express for not even 45 seconds and when I came back out Charlie was scratching at the door because he was so excited to see me! Our next stop was Bartell Drugs. I needed to pick up a prescription and decided to go through the drive through so Charlie didn't have to stay in the car alone. :) The minute I rolled down the window Charlie jumped into my lap and almost out the window. He knows that drive throughs usually mean he will get some sort of treat! I moved him so that I could hand the lady things a little bit more easily, but every time I moved back to a proper sitting position Charlie was in my lap again. I had to move him back to his seat about 6 times before we were done! When we were finished 5 minutes later, Charlie did get a treat!

We went to Petco after getting the prescription. Charlie was hesitant to go into Petco at first because that is where he gets his hair cuts and he doesn't really like those. :) Well once we passed the hair cut door he was fine. We went and looked all around the dog section at Petco. We first went to the food section and I got him some Merrick's Sausage things. He loved sniffing all the food bags that were at his level. We went to look at the lizards and snakes after, Charlie didn't really care about that. I thought maybe he would like birds better so I went to show him those, he was more interested the smells around him then the birds! I took him to the toy isle after. He had to sniff all the toys at his level. I asked him if he wanted a toy and he looked at me, I took that as a yes. We went to his favorite types of toys and I chose three. I put them down at his level and he chose a big alien one! He can hardly get it in his mouth, but he sniffed it and licked it more then the others, so I got him that one.

We left Petco and I tore the tag off of the toy in the car. He was a little hot so he didn't play with it in the car, but had it close to him the whole time. We got home and he carried it into the house all happy! He loved showing my mom and dad what he got. A couple hours later though, we had to take it away from him. We have another dog in addition to Chester named Chucu. Chucu is a Bishon Frise who loves to play. Charlie likes to play with him too. :)

Joe the Party Cocker is also here. He is a big lug, but a lovable lug at that.

Exhausted Charlie

Charlie has had a busy past couple of days.

Sunday Charlie took the day to catch up on sleep. He slept in my bedroom Saturday night and he loved it. I woke up with a stiff neck because he was sleeping right next to me and kept changing positions. That dog does not care what he does to you! For instance, last November my parents had to be somewhere early in the morning so at about four they put Charlie in my room to sleep. He started off parallel to me and then at about six I woke up almost falling off the bed. He had shifted so that he was parallel with my pillow instead of me and was stretched out! Saturday night was nothing like that, but I was woken up with his face in my face (bad breath!) and at one point even his butt in my face. Thank God he moved positions shortly after!

Sunday morning Charlie slept in his bed in the media room while I watched Saturday night's episode of Doctor Who. It was a very good episode, but as all Sunday's go, the week had finally caught up with me and I decided I wanted to go and sleep some more. This was at about 10 o'clock and Charlie came with me. He and I slept until about 11:30!!! We didn't realize that an hour and a half had passed!

Later on Sunday, my mom and dad went to see a movie so Charlie, Revellie, and I went upstairs to hang out. I was going to work on some HW, but started falling asleep again (Sunday really is when the week catches up on me, it is the only day I have nothing to do) I took Charlie and Revellie to my room and we all slept again. I was almost all the way off the bed because Charlie and Rev took up so much room! I can't believe how much room two little Westie's can take up so much room!

At about 4:30, after my parents had been home about 45 minutes, I gave Charlie a bath. He hates his weekly bath, but he was crazy after. He was even more crazy because Revellie got a bath too! She was super crazy!

Charlie slept in my room again last night as I will be away for a few days next weekend and won't get my weekly Saturday night slumber party with Charlie! Charlie didn't do much but sleep today as Revellie went home so he didn't have to worry about where she was.

 Charlie loves Apples
 YUM!
 He was tired last night
 They are best of friends!
Rev went home at about 1:30 and shortly after, at 2:30, Chester the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel showed up! Chester sleeps in my room and he snores a lot! He doesn't play with Charlie so Charlie doesn't get so tired when he is here. That is Chester sleeping in my room. He is a funny dog.

A look at Charlie's Saturday

As today was Saturday Charlie got to sleep past 5:45 am today!!! Of course, on weekdays he always goes back to sleep an hour after he wakes up. I guess he sleeps in a lot. :P

I got a nice wake up call from Charlie at 8:15 this morning. He usually brings me a toy to show to me, but today he brought a nylabone. He really doesn't even chew this bone, I don't know why he wanted to show it to me. Lol! He was super happy to wake me up and quickly jumped off my bed to go and play with Revellie!

I had work today at 9:30 and my parents went out to shop and do other things, so Charlie was home alone for much of the late morning and early afternoon. He was so happy to see me when I got home from work, but as I was watching someone else's dog for the weekend I had to leave again. I was gone for no more then 10 minutes, but when I got home Charlie acted like I had been gone for a week! He was super excited I was home and started freaking out and showing me his blue monster toy. He didn't even want to go outside he was so happy! Shortly after I got back from taking care of the dog my parents got home. This was a nice treat for Charlie, getting to see his sister and his parents one after the other! What a happy boy!

We had a dog come over for a meet and great (we watch other people's dogs) named Sparkle. Sparkle is a Havanese and is a very cute dog. Charlie and Revellie played with Sparkle for the fifteen minutes she was here. After Sparkle left, my parents and I went to Costco, Charlie had to stay home. :( On the way to Costco, while going through Washington "wine country" (we live close to Chateau St. Michelle and the Colombia Winery) we saw a sign that said "End of the world wine sale"!!!! Lol! Like I mentioned in last night's post, every store I go to that has a dog section I have to buy something for Charlie. Unfortunately, my parents would not let me buy a new bed for Charlie or the adorable stuffed toys I wanted to get him. It's probably a good thing that my parents don't let me buy Charlie things at Costco because if they did Charlie would have fifty beds and about 200 toys!

We got back from Costco and our neighbors were having a birthday party for their daughter. There were ponies at this party and I showed Charlie. I don't think he knew what to make of them. He growled at them, but he also whined at them. I think he wanted to go and play; they might have only been ponies, but they were still too big for Charlie to play with! Charlie had dinner after watching the ponies for a couple minutes. He had Merrick's New Zealand Summer wet food with Costco dry food. He ate that up quickly.

Right now Charlie is sleeping like he usually does at this time of night. He had a busy day even though he didn't go anywhere. He couldn't take his usual nap during the time my parents and I were gone because he had to worry where we were. He doesn't really like being home alone. :( Poor Puppy. Tomorrow Charlie gets to relax as it is Sunday and we usually don't do anything on Sunday.
I will leave you with this adorable picture of Charlie in his Squirrel costume from a couple Halloweens ago.

Sunny Friday!

These past few days, Thursday and Friday, the weather has been SUPER nice. Charlie and I live in Seattle and we haven't had a nice day like this since last summer! Of course, Charlie has been living it up. He just LOVES to go outside and sack out in the sun. He doesn't want to come in sometimes and we have to force him so he doesn't get too hot.

Today was my Brother, John's birthday. He is 22 today!!!!!! It was unfortunate that Charlie didn't get to celebrate with him. It was too hot for Charlie in the car today and we didn't want to leave him in a crowded mall parking lot as we went to eat lunch. I'm pretty sure Charlie gave John extra kisses today!

Earlier today Charlie went with my mom to some of her clients and the bank. It wasn't too warm out this morning so it was safe for him to wait in the car for a short period of time. Charlie just loves the bank. He gets to go in with my mom and get a treat or two! Today he got two. The transaction was taking awhile and Charlie was able to beg from two of the tellers! They all know him and love it when he comes. Charlie is very popular!

Charlie's friend Revellie is still here. She is such a pistol of energy! It's so fun to hear them playing upstairs when I am downstairs as you can hear the pounding of their feet. :) It is cute. Rev has been enjoying the weather as well and will sit out in the sun waaaaaay too long. She even laid out in the sun with me today, unfortunately, I got burned a little yesterday so didn't stay out too long today.

Right now it is Charlie's bedtime. He is over by the windows crashed out. He had a busy day of running errands and then napping. It takes a lot out of a dog napping! Rev is sleeping as well. She seems to use up ALL her energy during the day and then just collapses at the end of the day. It's hard to wake her up to get her to her kennel! She is so funny.

I don't have any recent pictures so here is a picture of Charlie and I looking out at the snow this past winter.
Forgot to mention that Charlie got some new dog treats from me today. I can't resist not buying him new stuff when I go out! These were Milk-Bones and they are all natural granola dog treats! They have Sweet Potatoes, Rolled Oats, Flaxseed, and Chicken. They also have no preservatives and no chemicals!!! Charlie only deserves the best!

Charlie Goes to the Office

Charlie went to work with my mom today. She goes to a jewelers in Bellevue to do bookkeeping on Tuesdays. Everyone at the jewelers LOVES Charlie! They adore him! Charlie really loves going to work.

Later in the day after he had rested up, he and I went and got the mail. He loves getting the mail and no matter how much I try not to let him know I am going to get it, he knows the sound of the keys jingling so of course he comes running! He saw a crow on the way to the mailbox so I had to pick him up. He loves chasing crows, I had no doubt that was what he wanted to do!

As I mentioned the other night, Charlie has a friend over. Her name is Reveille and she is also a Westie. Charlie loves to play with Rev, but only when he is in the mood. Rev is a pistol of energy. She can play all day long if you were willing to play with her! She loves to go outside as well and will spend hours out there if you let her! She is the exact opposite of Charlie's mellowness!

Charlie and Reveille playing after Rev got here.  (Charlie is the one with his mouth open)
 Reveille does relax sometimes!
 She even falls fast asleep!
She wants to play, Charlie is too tired!

Right now Rev is playing and Charlie is sleeping. They are the best of friends!

Wet, Rainy, Sunday!

Charlie had a very busy day today. Last night as I was coming out of the media room asking my brother, John a question I heard my parents laughing at Charlie in their bedroom. Apparently Charlie did not want to go into his kennel to sleep and had stayed on their bed. I offered to have him come sleep in my room so that they could have room on their bed. Luckily, his nest I made up for him was still there from last weekend. He very quickly spread out on the blankets and fell asleep.

This morning Charlie came to wake me up with his blue monster toy. After, I got up and ate breakfast then watched last nights episode of Doctor Who. At 10:45 I was falling asleep as I had gotten to much sleep last night. 10 hours! I went back into my room and went to sleep. My door was open and Charlie came upstairs, came into my room and cried to get up with me. He jumped up, said hello with kisses, then jumped back down. About 45 seconds later he came back in again and repeated the process! He did this one other time about 3 minutes later. What a crazy dog.

After lunch, my parents went to a movie so I took charlie upstairs to sleep on his bed while I worked on my essay. Not too long after I started working on my essay I got tired again. I took Charlie with me to my room and we napped together until my parents got home from the movies.

Charlie sleeping on his bed with his blue monster toy nearby!

At about 5:30 I gave Charlie a bath. He gets one almost every seven days as he gets smelly and dirty fast.  He hates getting a bath, but afterwards he always loves it! He rolls and plays for a while before he finally gets tired and falls asleep. Since I had given him his bath shortly before dinner, he only got to play for 15 minutes before he went and ate. Tonight he had Merrick's Grammy's Pot Pie wet food with Cowboy Cookout dry food. He sure loves dinner and quickly scarfed it up!

Charlie getting his bath. My mom washes his head as he doesn't let me do that.

Right now, Charlie is outside with his friend Reveille, who just got here. We are watching her as her "mom" is going to be in Chicago for a few days. I expect that he will be sleeping well tonight!

Charlie

I figured that since I was going to blog about my dog I might as well introduce him! (And probably myself too.)

Charlie is my best friend. He is a 5-year-old West Highland White terrier. He is as stubborn as ever— a very common personality trait of that breed.

We got Charlie on February 4th, 2006, only one week after our dog, Albert passed away from bladder cancer. Our house was too quiet without any four-legged friends walking around! We had known Albert was going to die for 3 months and had been looking online for breeders. We got Charlie from a breeder in Olympia. This breeder bred Westies for show, but because of Charlie's slight imperfections (pink paw pads and a little gray on his tail) he wasn't show quality! Lucky for us! He was perfect from the moment we met him!

My family leads a fairly quiet life and Charlie fits right in. He is very mellow and doesn't bark all that much. He loves to sleep and has ever since we got him when he was 6 months old! Charlie loves things other than sleeping. He loves to play with his toys— especially Chubby, his squirrel, and blue monster, his rubber monster toy. He loves to get the mail— he knows the word and the sound of the keys. His favorite thing ever is getting to go see his Nana, my grandmother. She spoils him rotten with food. She can't resist his cute little puppy dog eyes and slips him food at the table, even though that isn't allowed.

He likes to go to work with my mom when she goes to her clients. He gets treats from a lot of them! He also enjoys going to the bank, the pet store, and stopping by my work, which are all places that he gets a treat. The ones from my work are tasty homemade treats ( I work at a Great Harvest Bread Co. Bakery)!

Now that you know the basics about Charlie, I might as well tell you a little about me! I am 19 years old and am completing my freshman year in college. I plan on majoring in history, as I really love the subject!

I love spending time with Charlie and that is why I thought I would make this blog.

Charlie sleeping very comfortably with me.

Charlie was getting tired of me taking pictures of him with my new camera at Christmas time. He gave me a look. :)
